Springfield, Clark County sits on the I-70 Transportation Corridor between Dayton and Columbus that links the east and west coast. This busy Transportation Corridor is rapidly expanding, both in terms of business growth and truck traffic. To support this growth, Sheetz, a truck stop and convenience store chain with nearly 700 locations, is investing in Clark County.

Based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz leadership was excited about the opportunity to serve truck and consumer traffic along the I-70 Corridor. “The Dayton corridor is really attractive as a community. A lot of really busy roadways converge here,” said Nick Ruffner, Sheetz Public Relations Manager.

The combined Dayton/Columbus MSA is growing rapidly, with Columbus outpacing the rest of Ohio with over 3 percent population growth. Springfield, Clark County, Ohio is just 45 minutes from Columbus and 30 minutes from Dayton, making the city an ideal location for businesses serving both of these fast-growing markets. One of these companies is Gabe’s, an off-price retailer with over 167 locations. They have built their largest distribution center, over 850,000-square feet, in Clark County, Ohio to benefit from I-70 Corridor access and the region’s strong workforce.

“Gabe’s was thrilled to join the incredible Springfield community,” said Jason Wolter, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Gabe’s. “We have built a state-of-the-art facility and run a top-tier operation that will contribute positively on behalf of all Ohioans.” The newest Sheetz location, at 4700 S Charleston Pike Road in Springfield, is ideally positioned to serve the large number of trucks coming in and out of Gabe’s distribution center. “With the high traffic volume coming in and out of Gabe’s, Sheetz will immediately have a built-in customer base, in addition to the more than 65,000 daily drivers passing by on I-70,” said Horton Hobbs IV, Vice President of Economic Development for the Greater Springfield Partnership.

“Building out the I-70 Corridor’s infrastructure will make it even easier for businesses to operate in Springfield and Clark County, Ohio,” said Hobbs. Springfield’s Sheetz location has:

  • 8 lanes with high-flow diesel fuel and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) for semi-trucks
  • 16 fuel terminals for other vehicles
  • Free wifi
  • Indoor dining
  • Picnic seating
  • ATM
  • 32 free parking spaces also available for overnight parking to truckers
  • Access from Interstate 70 at exit 59

“People will be excited to see what we are all about, how much we have to offer, and how we support the community,” said Ruffner.

“We welcome Sheetz to Springfield and look forward to their growth in our community,” said Hobbs. “Businesses who are looking to leverage our location between Dayton and Columbus off of I-70 should contact me to discuss available sites and buildings,” he added.
