Remington Steel was formed in 1986 by Harold Pollens and Roy Kohl after the acquisition of Ohio Western Steel.  Remington began operations as a carbon steel distribution business.  Remington would purchase steel from mills and resell to its customers with limited value added services such as sawing, shearing, and flame cutting.  Shortly after ownership’s acquisition, emphasis was placed on adding long-term supply contracts with larger customers with a predictable demand pattern.

By 1990, one large contract was in place for steel plate and one for carbon and alloy bar stock, tube, pipe, and sheared sheets.  Mr. Pollens passed away in 1996 with Mr. Kohl becoming the sole owner.  Over the next several years, Remington acquired equipment and two smaller companies to expand their capabilities.  In addition to the rapid increase in plant equipment, Remington invested in human capital adding CAD engineering, CNC programing, and quality control.  By 2008, Remington was supplying approximately 1,200 discrete part numbers to OEM customers, and was awarded registration to ISO 9001: 2000 Quality Certification.  Today, Remington is ISO 9001:2008 certified.  From 2008 to 2011, Remington was providing parts to a rapidly expanding military land vehicle.  Remington was awarded subcontractor for 66 different parts used on the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle program.  Today, manufactured parts represent approximately 40% of sales and steel materials represent 60% of sales.  Remington continues to seek growth through long-term relationships of providing added service to a diverse customer base.
