This is not your mom’s Clark County, or Springfield for that matter. The community has changed in a good way. There are opportunities here to work for companies that will truly value you because, like you, they are part of the community. Take Keslawn (Kes) Harris, for example. He started working in the construction company and over his career has built three different companies in Springfield, including Kess Harris Trucking

“My mom helped me to get my first piece of equipment - a truck. I decided to save so I could purchase another truck. Every year from then on I would either save to buy another truck or property,” said Kess. He is now proud to employ other Springfield residents, giving them an opportunity to have a good career serving their community. “When you start working you think about others and try to help them along the way. It’s about giving back, helping and creating a model where people want to work with you and for you,” he said.

Terry Albert, one of Fire and Marine Inc (FMI), is also proud to have built a company in Springfield and to provide good careers for their employees. Founded in 2007, it expanded to a 100,000-square-foot facility in 2021 and has been hiring more people. The company delivers fully customized compartment management solutions and contract manufactured components for fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles. The FMI team has developed strong relationships with OEMs, municipalities, and first responders across the U.S.

“We meet with the fire departments, listen to their needs and build custom solutions for them so they get exactly what they are looking for and our backlog has been growing,” said Terry. “We are on a continuous growth path right now. Our goal is to double our capacity within five years.” He credits their Springfield team members for making this possible. “Without them, we couldn’t do it.”

That’s what’s unique about working for a company in Springfield. You’re valued here. And it’s not just in the manufacturing space. Chandi Shah, the owner of Winans, feels the same way. “We have incredible employees. Everything we do is possible because of them.”

As for career opportunities, Springfield is an excellent place to work, regardless of your industry. “What most people don’t realize is that every type of job is available here in Springfield. If you are a doctor or nurse, we need you. If you are an engineer, architect, plumber or welder, we need you too. If you are in marketing, finance, insurance, HR, management or sales, there is a job for you in Clark County,” said Amy Donahoe, Director of Workforce Development for Greater Springfield Partnership. “We have recruited new companies to Clark County and supported the growth of existing ones. This has created job opportunities for Clark County residents that were never here before,” said Horton Hobbs IV, Vice President of Economic Development. “If you haven’t looked for a job recently, it’s time to consider Clark County,” he said.
